Florida – Flagler Beach

On Monday, I arrived in Flagler Beach/Palm Coast.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flagler_Beach,_Florida)

I’d love to write that I am on my way on a great trip, but sadly, I cannot.  My Aunt, who I loved to the moon and back, died.  The family was gathering for the funeral on Tuesday morning.

My immediate family and I met at a restaurant on the beach for dinner – to relax after the four hour drive across the state (from south of Tampa).  The restaurant had a large patio with great views.  Two members of my family use walkers, so it was nice to have a place where they could enjoy the beach without struggling to move in the sand.

I wasn’t expecting to take pictures this trip, but fortunately had my old camera with  me.  Here are some pictures from the patio…

Oregon & Florida – Beaches

If you have been following my blog, you know that my posts have been absent for the past couple weeks.  My 81 year old mother had hip surgery and I have been busy assisting her.  Fortunately, she is doing well and on the road to full recovery.  (However, it may be weeks before I am photographing our beautiful country again.)

Here are some beach photographs of Florida and Oregon.  Two very distant areas – and equally beautiful!

Florida – Anna Maria Island

Yesterday, I traveled to Manatee Beach on Anna Maria Island.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Maria_Island)

It was a cold noon time, with the temperature between 45 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit.  The beach is usually very crowded, but yesterday, there were few people.  Everyone I met was a visitor from cold country (northern Illinois, Colorado, near Minneapolis,  Niagara Falls, Ft. Wayne, Rapid City, Vermont, and Buffalo).  They said they would gladly accept a cold day in Florida over the ridiculously cold temperatures they left back home.  (Most people mentioned temperatures below zero!)

The sun was shining and the beach was lovely….

The 100th blog post! Yippee!

Pennsylvania – Lake Erie (Erie & Lake City)

I visited two areas along Lake Erie in Pennsylvania.   (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Erie)

My first visit was to Erie, Pennsylvania.    (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erie,_Pennsylvania)

Went to Lake Erie as the sun was setting….  ( I believe I was at one of the beaches of Presque Isle.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presque_Isle_State_Park)

The sunset was beautiful….

I also visited Lake City – a small town area southwest of Erie.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_City,_Pennsylvania)

It is a nice, natural area.  I stayed in a gorgeous, small house on a hill, overlooking the Lake.  The house was surrounded by trees…

Lake Erie was just a short walk away….

The Lake and the sunset were gorgeous…

South Carolina – Sullivan’s Island Beach

Sullivan’s Island Beach (Sullivan Beach) is about 5 miles due east of Charleston.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan%27s_Island,_South_Carolina)

Florida – St. Petersburg

My travels took me to St. Petersburg  (also known as St. Pete, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Petersburg,_Florida).  I was looking for something fun to do in the Tampa Bay area and was pointed there.

St. Pete is located due west of Tampa.  I enjoyed traveling the long bridges (to get there from Tampa).

I liked St. Pete.  Downtown is a very inviting area, with restaurants, a view of the Bay, and more.

I drove down a pier and grabbed pictures of the city.

I stopped by the Museum of Fine Arts (http://www.fine-arts.org/).  They were hosting a free TEDx lecture event.  (https://www.ted.com/about/programs-initiatives/tedx-program).  It was a great time.  I have wanted to listen to the speakers in person.

This is the reception area at the museum.  Quite pretty.

I drove to the beach at Treasure Island, just over a small bridge from St. Pete. (http://www.stpeteparksrec.org/treasure-island-beach.html)

It was a cold and dreary day, so there were not many people at the beach.  I took my shoes off and walked barefoot.  It was surprising how different the sand felt from the sand at Panama City Beach.  This sand was not as soft and smooth.

Florida – Siesta Key Beach (Sarasota)

My travels took me to Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarasota,_Florida & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siesta_Beach)

I went to Siesta Key Beach for the Drumming Circle, that takes place each week on Sunday, an hour before sunset.

A large crowd gathered to watch and listen.  They stood or sat in a circle.  Some people went to the middle of the circle to dance.  About seven or eight musicians kept the beat going.

The beach was beautiful.  The winter weather was warm, but not warm enough for swimming.

Many of us gathered by the water and watched the sunset, while listening to the drumming in the distance.

Florida – Panama City Beach

On the panhandle of Florida (on the Gulf of Mexico coast) is Panama City Beach. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_City_Beach,_Florida)

I joined a former high school classmate at the beach.  We hadn’t seen each other in more than 35 years.  His girlfriend and he were there vacationing.  (They rented a condo on the beach for two weeks.)  I stayed for three days.  It was a wonderful visit!

The condo was high up (I think it was the 17th floor) with a balcony that overlooked the beach.  The view was magnificent!

The beach is very pretty.  The sand was soft to walk on.

It was winter and windy, but still warm enough to walk comfortably on the beach and in the Gulf water.
