While driving through the southwestern edge of Oregon, I stayed in Cave Junction.
Cave Junction is a small town with approximately 2,000 residents located about 7 miles north of the California/Oregon border. It’s a sweet town, with a main road that extends for about 4 blocks. It has one large supermarket and other smaller stores and restaurants. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_Junction,_Oregon)
I was in Cave Junction because I was couchsurfing around the USA and found interesting hosts there. (If you are unfamiliar with couchsurfing, it’s where people stay as guest at the homes of others who host travelers. There are several websites that facilitate this relationship on-line. My hosts lived on a small (approx. 7 acre) organic farm outside of town. The area was beautiful.
My first night there, my hosts took me to the nearby lake. The sun was soon to set. It was beautiful!
I was scheduled to stay for 2 nights, but I was in no rush to leave. My hosts offered that in exchange for some help around the farm and house, I was welcome to stay on longer . I gladly accepted. (I was raised in suburbia and have never worked on a farm, so it was a cool, new experience.)
I stayed for a total of eight days.
During my stay, I wandered to a natural area called “Rough and Ready Flat” (about 5 miles south town). The elevation is about 1400 feet. (http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/regions/Pacific_Northwest/RoughReady/index.shtml)
