In March, 2013, I was in Florida during the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ “Farmworker’s March for Rights, Respect, and Fair Food.” (http://ciw-online.org/ & http://www.ciw-online.org/march/index.html)
The March was 200 miles long (from Ft. Myers to Lakeland, where the Publix corporation is located.) It was about fair wages and better working conditions.
I met up with the March for a few hours (when they were about 20 miles north of Valrico.).
The March stopped along the street while the organizers met with local officials to figure out how to get the large group of people across a narrow bridge with no walkway (while there was traffic on the road). The Marchers waited patiently along the side of the road. Some of us wandered around the local area…
The Marchers were on their way to a gorgeous location for dinner.
